Hello All

I went up on the hill today to break in my new AR15.
It's made by American Spirit Arms. They call it a M4A3 AR-15 Rifle M4 Carbine.
I'm not sure what all the alphabet soup means. It looks like an entry level M4Forgery to me.
1/9 twist, light under the handguard, cut for the grenade launcher and a chrome-moly barrel.

Here's a link to ASA's website. http://www.americans...arbine-2-1.html

Fit and finish are top notch. Upper/lower fit is very good. Trigger was OK for a stock gun. I polished it up. It's much better now.

I went up on the hill above Scott's Mills.

This place is long. I've set up shots of 250 yards there. The best time is in the AM when the wind isn't blowing.
Just my luck today. 45 degrees and a nice 10-20 mph breeze blowing from the north. Add some sideways drizzle and it's a perfect day to get some quality blasting time in.

Charming place isn't it?

Break in went pretty smooth. Before I took it out, I made some passes with JB,s Bore Paste.
Then did a break in sequence.
One shot, cool, boresnake, repeat 10 times.
Three shots, cool, boresnake, repeat five times.
Five shots, cool, boresnake, repeat three times.
Then let the blasting commence.

I robbed the optics from AR#1. Larue LT 104 and a Bushnell Elite 3200 1.5x4.5x32 with RainGuard. The Rainguard really works. Water just runs off the lenses.

I brought my HD carbine for comparison. I prefer my guns simple.

To make a long story short, break in went ok with no hiccups or FTF. The scope was 3/4 sighted in already. I got it dialed in good enough to hit multiple clay targets from the 100 yard line.
After break-in, I let her rip. Had one FTF pretty quick. The BCG was a little dry. Like an idiot I forgot my gunlube(Synthetic ATF).
Rummaging around in the trunk I found some Penzoil 10w-40. If it's good enough for my car, it's good enough for my guns.
Sopped the BCG. Ran 200 more rounds of mixed handloads, wimpy factory loads and XM193 without any hiccups. So it needs to be ran wet.

I think it's a decent gun. Looks good, runs good. I didn't shoot it for groups, but it will mow down orange clay targets at a good pace.
The recoil is snappy and it throws brass into the next time zone.
It needs a 9MM buffer, Ergo grip and a 5C1 flash hider. The oval HG is too fat. I'll get the round one similar to the HG on my HD carbine.

I took my HD carbine out also. It hasn't been out for awhile and I need to keep in practice with it. I used it to mow down the clay targets missed by the M4Forgery. It has a heavy .750" barrel, NM carrier and a 9MM buffer. I was surprised that I was mowing down the clay targets better than I was with a scoped gun at 100 yards. XM193 isn't match ammo but the slickside did a great job. It has the old school A1 sights.
It shoots real soft and the trigger is fully broke in. I surprised myself a few times chasing pieces of clay targets.
I'll bet I couldn't repeat that great shooting in front of witnesses though. You'll just have to take my word for it.

That's it. Looks like ASA got their act together and makes a decent gun.
It will make a nice bumming-around-gun and a good New York reload in case the Zombies attack.

I've probably bored everyone to tears by now.
I return you to whatever you were doing before you clicked here.
